Beginning in the early 1990's in Oxnard, CA, Madlib's distinctive crate-dug production has formed the basis of LPs for Lootpack, Quasimoto, and Yesterdays New Quintet. And that's just the Stones Throw stuff. When he's not touring as a DJ alongside Peanut Butter Wolf or as an MC as one third of the group Lootpack, he's making tribute albums of Stevie Wonder and Azymuth just for the fun of it. Don't ask where he finds time for the other labels requesting his services as a remixer and guest artist, recording for the likes of Bilal, Zero 7, Glenn Lewis, Beastie Boys, The Liks, Xzibit, Dilated Peoples, Planet Asia, King Britt, and Jay Dilla. And don't ask about his mix CD project for Blue Note Records either. At least the critics and fans have taken note. He has received major coverage in magazines as varied as The Source, Wallpaper, Vibe, Spin, Mojo, Vogue, Los Angeles Times, iD, Flaunt, and URB. He was voted hip hop Producer of the Year for 2001 by the listeners of Los Angeles' Friday Night Flavors on commercial station POWER 106.
