Cassetteboy’s original methods used to involve an immense
amount of work editing with a manual pause button tape to tape
machine, ‘The Parker Tapes’ compiled 7 years work,
adding up to 98 tracks! Needless to say their eventual acquisition
of a computer and a cracked copy of the Soundforge editing software
has proved a godsend and speeded up the process somewhat.
With ‘Mick’s Tape’ Cassetteboy pick up right
where ‘The Parker Tapes’ left off; Tiff Needel advises
you on shopping around for a crack ho, Queen Victoria grows a
pair of testicles and you’re invited to indulge in a spot
of sodomy with your golf lesson. ‘Mick’s Tape’
also includes full length tracks from such diverse Cassetteboy
faves as MF DOOM, Fela Kuti, Screaming Lord Such, Squarepusher,
Fennesz and Shalamar,
Cassetteboy live gigs are rarer than hens teeth, and have to
be seen to be believed. Over the years they have appeared as Mary
and Jesus, Bush and Bin Laden and Frank and Pat Butcher, and Big
Daddy and Giant Haystacks. They have also played at Glastonbury,
Dedbeat, and the Big Chill, as well as an extensive tour of the
USA supporting Squarepusher in 2004.
In ‘Micks Tape’ Cassetteboy have created something
both hilarious and downright offensive. They represent the attention
deficit disorder generation, frantically hacking pop culture to
pieces with a digital scalpel and reassembling it in their own
twisted image.
In the words of the mighty Tim Westwood “It’s about
that time to press play and record…”
